Pivoting is a process, not an event.

I know because I’ve been there.

The woman in the portrait stared back at me. Her dark eyelids and bright red lips were all I could see of her face; the rest was hidden by a mask. The artwork was simple…and yet several things became clear all at once.

First, I was the woman wearing the mask. I was a black woman rising in an industry dominated by older white men (finance), and I felt limited, frustrated, and exhausted.

Second, I wasn’t operating at my fullest potential. I’d checked all the boxes and done all the right things in my career, but something was missing. I wasn’t owning who I was uniquely designed to be.

Third, change was needed, and it had to start with me. Looking into the masked woman’s eyes, I made a decision right there to pivot. No matter what, I was going to be authentic, boldly honest, and consistent with everyone I met regardless of status. And I was going to quit waiting and get into the driver’s seat of my career.

Almost immediately I met resistance, both inwardly and from others. But the more I moved, the clearer the path became. A plan formed, and before I knew it, I had unleashed the leader within.

Now my mission is to Own the Leader Within™ me by leading authentically and influence positive change, starting with you.

Own The Leader Within™

I embraced unapologetic leadership by learning how to define success for myself, and throw off the limitations that had been placed on me. My promise is to teach you to do the same.

Credibility is important to me.

There are a lot of coaches and consultants out there who make big promises…
but don’t deliver tangible results.

Here are four reasons to choose me:

1

You deserve someone with experience.
I have thirty years of field-tested methods that work.

2

You need expertise.
I have a Master’s Degree in Psychology, Leadership and Coaching.

3

You need strategic thinking that helps you avoid pitfalls.
My background is strategy.

4

You want to reach your full potential, and unleash the leader within.
I can help.

But don’t take my word for it. Credibility comes from doing the work. Here’s what other people have to say about working with me:

No One Quite Like Her

“In 20 plus years, I have never met anyone quite like her.”

Marcus Moses

Leader and Friend

“She promoted continual growth with me. And it really stood out to me because it made me like she wasn’t just being a leader, but also being a friend.”

Terri Hardin-Chisholm

Experience That Counts

More about my background

Resumes don’t tell the whole story, but they do provide solid evidence of success. In my case, this success is expressed through the following highlights of a 30+ career as a leader and professional problem solver.

Before founding Mary H. Davis Coaching, I was an executive in a top-three US financial institution specializing in Risk Management. I began my career with First Union/Wachovia/Wells Fargo in 1993as an Audit Manager, VP, and my skill for strategic thinking and aptitude for leadership helped me rise to the premier executive role of Business Risk and Control Director. My engagement and leadership in over 300+ mergers and acquisitions has helped me master agility and navigating change.

In addition to candor and authenticity, I brought vital skills to my organization and colleagues, including a keen ability to assess business risk and analyze potential future scenarios in order to make crucial present-day decisions. I served as advisors to senior executives on diversity, equity, and inclusion, and I coached on how to pivot from the status quo. I also excelled at cross-functional collaboration and helping teams manage change and innovation successfully.

I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, and have a Master’s Degree in Psychology with a speciality in Leadership and Coaching. I’m a certified Professional Behavioral Analyst, MotivatorAnalyst, and Emotional Intelligence Analyst, plus a certified Risk and Information Systems ControlsSpecialist.

In sum, my education and work experience have allowed me to execute impactful strategies, lead diverse teams, and coach and develop high-performing groups and individuals for a premier financial institution. And now I’m excited to leverage that same combination of education and experience for you. Let’s get started…

Beneath the Experience:
Two Things That Drive Me

My faith and family drive me.

My grandmother taught me the value of being grounded in faith, and that faith has instilled confidence in me throughout my life to make my dreams a reality.

Coaching starts at home. As a mother, my daughter is my inspiration. My greatest reward has been to watch her unleash her own leader within and pivot early in her life

Together as a family of four generations in one house, we value time together, we laugh often, and we believe in each other. Strong women raise strong women.
