Pivoting is a process, not an event.
I know because I’ve been there.
The woman in the portrait stared back at me. Her dark eyelids and bright red lips were all I could see of her face; the rest was hidden by a mask. The artwork was simple…and yet several things became clear all at once.
First, I was the woman wearing the mask. I was a black woman rising in an industry dominated by older white men (finance), and I felt limited, frustrated, and exhausted.
Second, I wasn’t operating at my fullest potential. I’d checked all the boxes and done all the right things in my career, but something was missing. I wasn’t owning who I was uniquely designed to be.
Third, change was needed, and it had to start with me. Looking into the masked woman’s eyes, I made a decision right there to pivot. No matter what, I was going to be authentic, boldly honest, and consistent with everyone I met regardless of status. And I was going to quit waiting and get into the driver’s seat of my career.
Almost immediately I met resistance, both inwardly and from others. But the more I moved, the clearer the path became. A plan formed, and before I knew it, I had unleashed the leader within.
Now my mission is to Own the Leader Within™ me by leading authentically and influence positive change, starting with you.
Own The Leader Within™
I embraced unapologetic leadership by learning how to define success for myself, and throw off the limitations that had been placed on me. My promise is to teach you to do the same.
Credibility is important to me.
There are a lot of coaches and consultants out there who make big promises…
but don’t deliver tangible results.
Here are four reasons to choose me:
You deserve someone with experience.
I have thirty years of field-tested methods that work.
You need expertise.
I have a Master’s Degree in Psychology, Leadership and Coaching.
You need strategic thinking that helps you avoid pitfalls.
My background is strategy.
You want to reach your full potential, and unleash the leader within.
I can help.
But don’t take my word for it. Credibility comes from doing the work. Here’s what other people have to say about working with me:
No One Quite Like Her
“In 20 plus years, I have never met anyone quite like her.”
Leader and Friend
“She promoted continual growth with me. And it really stood out to me because it made me like she wasn’t just being a leader, but also being a friend.”
Experience That Counts
More about my background
Founding Mary H. Davis Coaching was me following my calling. I do this because I am uniquely made for this. I learned to lean into my Identity and my strengths to help people thrive instead of simply survive. How amazing is that?
At a young age, I learned the importance of setting intentions for who “I AM” and the importance of being a nurturer and leader. Because of my family dynamics as my mom’s oldest child, the first grandchild, raised as the only girl, and other childhood experiences, I was a natural helper wanting the best for others. Also, I realized early in my career that there was an expectation of assimilation to advance up the corporate ladder. I found assimilating did not allow for my true strengths to surface. It was as if I had on a mask, and it was suffocating! As I navigated my career, I intentionally absorbed every experience, sought to help others, learned from my experiences, and removed the mask.
Now, the moment has come where I get to use my experiences, knowledge, skills, and passion to help individuals set intentions and goals that align with their values. Investing in Human Capital is critical to our survival.
Before founding Mary H. Davis Coaching, I was an executive in one of the world’s largest financial institutions. I began my career in 1993. I supported and actively participated in well-over 300+ mergers and acquisitions of other institutions and business lines. My strategic thinking skills and aptitude for leadership helped me rise to the premier executive role of Business Risk and Control Director. This role enabled me to master agility and navigate change.
In addition to honesty and authenticity, I brought vital skills to my organization and colleagues. I embodied a keen ability to assess business risk and analyze future scenarios to make crucial present-day decisions. I served as advisors to senior executives on diversity, equity, and inclusion. I got my first executive coaching request when I completed a 5-day diversity training. At the time, the Head of the Asset Management Division asked me to coach, advise, and serve as a confidant as he became a more inclusive leader. It was an honor and the first clue I had that I was good at coaching…damn good! I also excelled at cross-functional collaboration and helping teams manage change and innovation successfully. I learned to excel in chaos and taught others to do the same. I believe that change comes when we reach out to help others. In addition to heading up Mary H Davis, I advocate for change through my work and support of organizations that help victims of Human Trafficking and Commercial Sexual Exploitation.
I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and have a Master’s Degree in Psychology with a specialty in Leadership and Coaching. I’m a certified Professional Behavioral Analyst, MotivatorAnalyst, and Emotional Intelligence Analyst, and I have a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Certificate from Cornell University.
In sum, my education and work experience have allowed me to hone my top talents to now be my strength. My top strengths are leadership, coaching, strategy & execution. And now, I’m excited to use my experiences, knowledge, skills, and passion for helping individuals own the leader within, set intentions and goals that align with their values. I help individuals and organizations redefine the possibilities- Redefine Success Without Limits!
